Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Eileen’s family emigrated to Canada when she was six and, while she calls herself a Prairie girl, her Irish roots run deep. With the heart of a storyteller and a poet, her “deeply intimate and stirring vocals and her slightly Celtic-influenced songwriting” leave you with a sense of hope. (Heather Kitching, Folk Roots Canada) Laverty entertains audiences of all ages with her songs and stories, drawing on her repertoire of original music and select cover songs. Eileen’s track record includes several songwriting accolades and numerous radio and television appearances. A look at the acts she has supported will underscore her universal appeal: the late country legend Kenny Rogers, rocker Tom Cochrane, Irish star Mary Black, and Canadian Tenor John McDermott. She has released three CDs and several singles to date. Eileen has enjoyed working on a few collaborative projects in recent years, including debuting new music with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, and performing with the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra. She wrote music for Canadian Playwright Daniel MacDonald’s new work, Blow Wind, and performed as a member of the cast during the premiere run in 2018. Blow Wind was published by Playwrights Canada Press and launched in November, 2022. In 2019, Eileen released “Close to Home,” a song commissioned in support of the In 2021-22, Eileen was invited to perform a number of online concerts, including John McDermott’s Christmas and Father’s Day shows (with George Canyon, Alan Doyle, Shari Ulrich, Larry Gowan and others). Another highlight was when Eileen performed with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra for the “A Night in Dublin” concert in March, 2021, which was live-streamed and viewed by 4,000 people in five countries. “[It’s] her natural ability to speak honestly through her songs, you can’t help but love the experience,” wrote Mark Turner, SSO Executive Director. Eileen is also a lifelong fan of The Beautiful Game--still playing when her schedule permits. She loves the outdoors, and many of her songs were composed in and around the northern forests and rivers of Saskatchewan. Eileen is currently in studio crafting new songs, with a recording in the works for early 2024.
